George Bellows – Stag at Sharkey’s

Walk into a century old atmosphere and experience a New York boxing night. George Bellows paintings were situated in a private athletic club across from his studio in New York. The fighters were usually members of the club. Sometimes outsiders would fight. The so called “stags”.

George Wesley Bellows (1882 – 1925) was an American realist painter known for his bold paintings of urban life in New York City.
According to Columbus Museum of Art he became “the most acclaimed American artist of his generation”.
